Interview with Pamela Hess, Past Grant Recipient
1. Was last year the first time you had applied to the GW foundation? How did you hear about the foundation?
Yes, it was the first time. I think one of our interns told us about it. (Caitlin Trout).
2. Have you had positive experiences working with the GW community in the past?
Absolutely yes. In fact, I hired Sara Policastro, who wrote the winning grant, as my assistant.
3. Was the process of applying to our grant similar/different than your past experiences? How so?
It was different because Sara wrote the entire thing, with a little input from me!
Other than that it was about the same -- deadline, submission. I can't remember if they interviewed me prior to the award, though.
4. Do you think the students understood the significance and the seriousness of their work?
Yes, they were very serious.
5. How did the grant benefit Arcadia?
We applied it to our Bonus Bucks program, so our underserved, low-income customers were able to double their SNAP (food stamp) benefits dollar for dollar. This allowed them to buy more nutritious food for their families.
6. Would you consider applying for future GW grant?
Yes, in fact we are drawing up the grant now!
